THE BYCX NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

BUILDING A RAILROAD TAKES A LOT OF WORK.  SO DOES OPERATING IT AND MAINTAINING IT.

IF THE SONG "I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD" STIRS YOUR IMAGINATION, IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN CLARK COUNTY, OR IF YOU JUST WANT TO GET OUT AND DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT, HERE'S YOUR OPPORTUNITY.  READ THE DESCRIPTIONS BELOW, FILL OUT THE ON-LINE FORM, AND WE'LL CONTACT YOU.

TRACK DEPARTMENT: Literally the foundation of the organization.  Work as part of a crew to repair and maintain the track. This is a continual process. Work under the supervision of the Track Supervisor. Training is OJT.

MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT: Repair, maintain and restore the locomotive and cars. Skills such as welding, woodworking and diesel repair are very helpful in this area, but on the other hand, anyone can scrape old paint and pound nails.  Work as part of a team under the Mechanical Supervisor.

STATION MASTER: In charge of the station. Responsible for the safety of passengers and public at the station. Also supervises ticket sales.

DOCENT: A fancy name for tour guide. Assist passengers and the public both on the train and at the station. Learn and talk about the history of the railroad and North Clark County. Also responsible for passenger safety. Must be able to talk to groups of people.

CLERICAL: Answer phones, take reservations, file.

VOLUNTEER SERVICES: Maintain contact with volunteers, maintain schedules of railroad activities and organize work parties for railroad projects

FOOD SERVICE AND GIFT SHOP SALES: Serve at the gift shop and refreshment areas.

RESEARCHER: Look for historical information about the rail lines that served the area and the history of North Clark County

BRAKEMAN / CONDUCTOR: Are you interested in being a member of the train crew? We provide on-the-job training by experienced teachers to train you for these jobs. The positions also require passing a written test but we provide a class and it's great fun. Come join us. You won't regret it.

OTHER: We don't know what "other" is, but we won't turn away a good volunteer.

Just fill out this quick form, click the submit button and we will contact you.
